Meet Carrie Hall :: from JUX Developments.
We’ve recently re-connected with the gorgeous Carrie Hall through our close circle of friends (when I say recently, I mean in the past 6 years). I was intrigued when I found out Carrie worked as a mortgage broker (as they’re always fantastic people to ask questions and predict future interest rate trends).
However within a few short months (or it may have been years who’s counting), I discovered she’d landed her dream job (and mine, ha) as a Colour Consultant. Bingo. And ever since I’ve been pestering Carrie with interior design questions and seeking her contacts and supplier’s lists (thank you). So I thought it very appropriate to share our conversations regarding spec homes and styling for clients right here on the blog.
// Ohhh a Colour Consultant how exciting Carrie. You seriously have the best job in the world. What are your favourite aspects of the role and what are the types of projects you work on?
At Jux we mainly do residential building work so my favourite aspects would be working with our clients and bringing their vision for their home to life. You have to be able to work together with your client; they may have a particular idea in mind so you help them to create that. Other clients come to me with no ideas or just one item in particular that they love and we work from that. The other aspect I enjoy is working with our tradesmen, many of whom have worked for Jux for many years so you build a relationship with them and they know what level of quality we expect.
// How do you keep up-to-date with all of the cutting edge products, colours, styles etc? (I know I get slightly overwhelmed with the variety at times).
Networking with other people in the industry and our representatives from exisiting suppliers is probably one of the main ways we find out about new products. I also love reading industry magazines and watching programs like Grand Designs Australia when I have time. We receive so many emails from suppliers or potential suppliers with current trends, colours etc, and we follow other building companies and suppliers on social media. We also attend as many industry functions, events and product launches as possible.
// How many projects can you style, coordinate, plan at the same time? Is it really possible to do more than one home/client at a time?
It is definitely possible to do more than one home/client at the same time however how well you look after that home/client is another question. Jux tries to only start one job per month as we like to have full control of the build process. So many things can go wrong in this industry so we like to make sure we are on top of everything. Jux is also really flexible during the build process, this is something we pride ourselves on and one of the main reasons we don’t like to take on too much at once. Sometimes I may work on three houses at the same time however they would all be at different stages of the build process.
My husband and I are still in the first home we ever brought. It is affordable, simple and now has a neutral palette. We have renovated and added our own touches over the past 8 years. We have a 9 month old son so things will no doubt change again as different parts of the home become more or less important. I have recently purchased all new linen and accessories for our master bedroom and I always love to have fresh flowers and a candle burning. We are hoping to build our dream home eventually. I see so many ideas everyday so I am gradually putting together my wish list ready for the grand plan. Until then, I will just help other people create their dream homes.
Working together with my clients and our trades to create something beautiful is rewarding. However ultimately seeing our clients happy with the finished product is the most rewarding part. It means that I have listened to what they wanted and brought to life their ideas and hopes for their home. At the end of the day I can only provide advice and ideas, the end decision is my clients. It is their home and they have to live there. I like to see my job as collaboration between us as a team.
Thank you Carrie (and Jux), your homes are beautifully eco-elegant.
